The CK Community Works to Make Our Town Safe

You may have noticed that there was a lot of action in the streets of Crown King on Saturday, June 15. Chief Ian Dougherty held the morning briefing at 7am, sending crews all over the mountain to collect piles of brush along the roads. Owners had been clearing brush at their cabins over the past few weeks. This bulk pick-up of slash is an effective way to help make our town Fire-Wise. Tractors, dump trucks, trailers & pickups were busy transporting slash to a staging area. The pile was then transferred to a slash pile where it will be burned when conditions are favorable. After over five hours of hard work, the volunteers were treated to a wonderful BBQ served by CKFD. Many thanks to all the people who cleared their properties, the many volunteers who worked tirelessly on Saturday and CKFD staff. Thanks to all the locals who donated food to help feed our volunteers & staff. We truly have the best neighbors in Crown King!
