Pony Express 2011 Crown King

23rd Annual Pony Express Ride
The sound of pounding hoofs on the Main Street Bridge is not something we hear often in Crown King. Instead of the usual RPM Horsepower, we got the ‘Real Deal” on June 30th when the Phoenix JC’s Comancheros rode to town! This was their 23rd Annual ride through Crown King on their way to the Prescott 4th of July Rodeo. Not only is this event a lot of fun for riders and spectators, they also raise lots of money for the Phoenix JC’s Children’s Charities. One Hundred Percent of the Pony Express TShirts &  promotional items sold at the General Store is donated to the JC’s. At the General Store we sold $5 letters for the riders to carry in their bags that would eventually be delivered to the addressee via US Mail. The special Pony Express letters included a brief description of the original Pony Express and a hand written note from the sender. This year’s event raised more money than in years past. The day was topped off with a pot luck dinner hosted at the Bear Creek Cabins. Local musicians, “The Bradshaw Mountain Boys” kept the tunes rolling and the local ‘old timers’ entertained the guest with Crown King stories. From all of us at the Crown King Post Office and General Store, we are proud to continue our support and association with the Phoenix JC’s Comancheros! Thanks guys for including Crown King in your annual ride!
