Hundreds of seasoned trail-riders were welcomed at the Crown King Fire Dept on Saturday, November 8th.
The Arizona Trailriders Association sponsored their annual fall ride for over 200 devoted trail riders. This year’s voyage brought riders to Crown King from Wickenburg. After a much deserved rest and a hearty lunch, the riders set off on the trail to Prescott. Riders were provided a delicious BBQ Lunch along with Hot Apple Crisp for dessert. The CK Fire Department enjoyed hosting this event and truly appreciates the AZ Trailriders for their continued support.
Riders chose from three routes, A, B or C. All routes were considered challenging as the recent rainfall washed out trails and created obstacles on all the levels. Riders of all ages participated, from late teens to 77 yrs old! The 77 yr old rider, Len, said he has purchased a new KTM dirt bike every year since 1973. He was truly an inspiring man. There were several father-son riders as well. Dirt bikers from several states participated, including a group of 18 friends from California . There were bikers from Oklahoma too.
The sea of bikes was a sight to see. Kurt Larson, CKFD Volunteer Firefighter, kept busy at the General Store gas pump, keeping the line of customers moving along, while Anna Coleman tracked the gas sales. Kurt and Anna helped to expedite gassing up the bikers and getting them back out on the trail. Linda Lombardo, Susan Nerheim and Carol Boles prepared the food, while the CKFD firefighters set up and served the luncheon. Chief Steve Lombardo, and Linda Lombardo along with the CKFD staff would like to say “Thanks” to Chris Jones, Kurt Larson, Larry Hastings, Karen and Dave Norman, Knut & Susan Nerheim, Angel Cabrea and Carol Boles for volunteering to help with this fundraiser. Like many organizations, the Crown King Fire Dept has experienced budget cuts and the need for funds has increased. The AZ Trailriders help to support the CKFD by allowing them to host the lunch. The CK General Store gave every rider a Crown King Bandana to show their appreciation, and The Prospector gaveĀ pocket knives to the riders to show their gratitude.
We hope to see the AZ Trailriders in two years. Next year their trails take them to the Payson area. Safe travels and Happy Trails to you all. Thanks for supporting our town!
