APPLE FESTIVAL WAS THE BEST EVER!
Thanks to the Crown King Historical Society and this year’s Committee Chairwoman, Tammy Sidles, the 2013 Apple Festival was Awesome! The day started off with an Apple Pancake breakfast at Megan’s Doozy’s Bakery, including her newest creation of apple bacon pancakes topped with whipped cream! The kid fun began at 11 AM and continued throughout the day. There were Hay Rides, Pumpkin Patch, Bouncy House, Fudge Dipped Apples, Cotton Candy, Gold Panning, Apple Bobbing, Cake Walk, Games, Crafts & Treasure Hunt. Lots of fun for all ages! Crown King’s Little Red Schoolhouse was one of the favorite hayride stops. The Teacher, Ms. Adriane McSpadden, shared stories of what it is like to teach in a one room schoolhouse, both now and 100 yrs ago.
The Crown King Saloon hosted Live Music on the brothel balcony, a Silent Auction and the Cake Walk, while the Bear Creek Cabins was converted to a ‘Pumkin Patch’. Kids picked their pumpkins off the grassy lawn and decorated them for Halloween. There is nothing like a Bouncy House to bring out the little kid in all of us! Vendors also enjoyed a profitable day selling their treasures along Main Street. Our Crown King Fire Dept gave the kids a ‘hands on’ look at firefighting.
The General Store Main Street Patio was busy with kids decorating their apples dipped in their Famous Fudge and enjoying fresh cotton candy. Sue Carneal treated everyone to her spinning wheel demonstrations as the guests toured the Free Crown King Historical Society Museum. Next door at the Bradshaw Mountain Guest Ranch, there were lots of tasty homemade Apple Treats for sale! Barb Woodward made an “Apple Cake in a Jar” along with other yummy apple items that were big hits with the crowd. They also sold Fresh Apple Juice from their apple press while little ones were Bobbing For Apples. Down at the Prospector Mall kids had lots of fun trying their luck at Panning for Gold.
Thanks to Chuck Bolle & his grandson, Cody, as well as Eric VanCleave for driving the free hayride around town all day. This was truly a huge event that required many volunteers. Thanks to all of you who helped set up, clean up, direct traffic, sell tickets, donated generously, etc. It would not have been so successful without all of you! A big Thank You goes out to Discount Tire for their generous sponsorship donation that helped the CKHS to kick off this event and for their silent auction donations.
We hope all the kids had a lot of fun. Thanks to everyone for your support of Crown King, AZ.
