This year’s CK Fire Dept Auction/Dinner~Dance was the biggest to date! There were lots of great donations & record attendance on Saturday, Sept 21st. Chief Lombardo & his Firefighters, along with countless Volunteers, worked hard to make this year’s fundraiser the best ever.
The bidders showed their affection for the local CKFD with extremely generous donations.
MANY THANKS TO ALL THE DONORS & VOLUNTEERS WHO HELP SUPPORT THE CROWN KING FIRE DEPARTMENT. THANK YOU TO ALL THE GUESTS & BIDDERS WHO GENEROUSLY DONATED AND HELPED MAKE THE 2013 AUCTION/DINNER~DANCE THE BEST EVER!
Auctioneers, Dan & Jeanna Rousch, from Dickson, Tennessee, have donated their services to Chief Lombardo & his Crew for the past 20 yrs. Although they moved from AZ years ago, they continue to travel back every year to support CKFD. Each year they collect donations from their local Tennessee friends & firefighters to support CKFD. It had always been Dan’s goal to raise $20,000 at a CKFD Auction. This year he not only met, but exceeded his goal. The CKFD is still working on their final accounting, but it is certain to be well over $20,000. Thanks to Dan, Jeanna & their friend Connie, for the many hours of hard work at this year’s auction.
One of the most anticipated auction items is the ‘Velvet Lady Painting.’ Tradition dictates that the successful bidder must return her to the auction next year. This auction item historically will bid at a very high price. The names and dates of the previous Winning Bidders are listed on the back of the painting. Carl Schaffer & Jacki Lynn were the high bidders this year and will have ‘temporary custody’ of the ‘Velvet Lady Painting’ for the next year. Thanks Carl & Jacki for your generous donation. We know she is in good hands!
This year marks the beginning of another Re-Donating Tradition for the CKFD Auction. ‘The Fire Ax’ is a project started by a Crown King Community member, who wishes to remain anonymous, in order to raise money for the Crown King Fire Department.
The ax is made of ¼” steel, representing the strength of the Wildland Fire Fighter. The inlays are ¼” brass, which is often used in situations to avoid sparking, reminding us to minimize fire danger in our community. The brass and steel were cut with water, which puts out fire.
The Granite Mountain Hot Shots ring and logo commemorate the memory of the 19 Granite Mountain Hot Shots who perished in the Yarnell Hill Fire on June 30th, 2013 and especially Anthony Rose, beloved son of Crown King. Surrounding the ring and logo is the Cross of St. Florian, the patron saint of fire fighters.
The donor requested that ‘The Fire Ax’ be re-donated each year to raise money for the fire department and so it can continue to be shared by the community. Thanks to the generosity of the winning bidder and to our Anonymous Crown King Neighbor, ‘The Fire Ax’ raised $1,200 this year.
We hope everyone had fun. Thanks again for supporting the Crown King Fire Department and the local CK community.
