Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers for helping make the 2010 Crown King Apple Festival the best ever!! Margaret Henningsen, Crown King’s resident “Apple Queen” worked tirelessly to promote and organize this fun filled family event. The children had a great time bouncing in the giant bouncy house, complete with a slide! Kids found treasures in the haystack along with picking a free pumpkin in the Bear Creek Cabins Pumpkin Patch. Thanks to Steve and Sheila Coleman for donating the pumpkins and for once again creating our pumpkin patch! A free hayride was provided to all our festival attendees.
Crown King’s little red school house hosted a tour and open house. Our students served apple pies and helped visitors create their own old fashioned ‘rag doll’. Thanks to our town’s teacher, Cheryl Franklin, and all the students for helping make this year’s apple festival both interesting and fun. Our town’s goal is to create a wholesome, old fashioned festival for kids and parents. The General Store’s giant apple tree on the front porch provided over 150 lbs of free apples to our visitors!
The day started off with an apple pancake breakfast at the Crown King Saloon. The CK Fire Dept open house offered Junior Firefighting Training, along with an obstacle course complete with a smoke machine, teaching kids how to escape a burning building. The photo features Crown King’s Firefighers, Ashlee and Elizabeth, assisting a Jr Firefighter through the course. Thanks to all the firefighters for sponsoring this valuable event for our kids! Thanks to Mike & Sam at the Mill for hosting the Apple Showdown at the end of the event. There was something for everyone!!
The Crown King Historical Society was the beneficiary of the proceeds of this event. Longtime resident, Ray Singer, hosted the Historical Display located on the side yard of the General Store. Visitors enjoyed learning the history of the Southern Bradshaws and viewing the awesome antiques in the museum. Local vendors sold their art and crafts! Crown King is home to many great artists, crafters and a very gifted photographer! Tabby Osborne’s work can be found at www.MyPhotoDreams.com
Every festival participant received a free ‘Fudge Dipped Apple” from the Crown King General Store. The famous butter cream chocolate fudge was melted to create a delicious sauce for dipping the apples picked from the giant apple tree on the front porch of the store. Adults were welcome to dip and decorate too! Everyone joined in the fun and generous donations were accepted for the Historical Society. We hope that all our kids and parents had a fun time at this year’s festival and are planning to attend our Apple Festival in 2011.
